• Indian Institute of Technology is the 23 technical education institute of India.
• All these IITs are “Institutions of National Importance” established by the Government of India.
•  As of 2021, the total number of seats for undergraduate programs in all the 23 IITs is 16234.

List of IITs / IIT list in India :-

1. IIT jammu, jammu & kashmir

• This IIT was formed in 2016. Which was established in Jammu of Jammu and Kashmir.
• Known as IITJM, this IIT is spread over 400 acres.

2. IIT Mandi, Himanchal Pradesh

• Indian Institute of Technology Mandi is an institute established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
• The first session of the institute started in the year 2009. The institute is located in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh.

3. IIT Ropar, Punjab

• Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar is an institute established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
• The first session of the institute started in the year 2008. The institute is located in Rupnagar district of Punjab.

4. IIT Delhi, Delhi

• IIT Delhi (Indian Institute of Technology Delhi) is the premier technical education institute in India and the world.
• This institute is located in Delhi.

5. IIT Roorkee, Uttarakhand

• Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee is a public engineering university in India.
•  IIT roorkee is located in Roorkee, Uttarakhand state. Earlier the name of IIT Roorkee was ‘University of Roorkee’, even before it was named ‘Thomson College of Civil Engineering’.
• It was originally founded in 1847

6. IIT kanpur, Uttar Pradesh

• Indian Institute of Technology Rajasthan is an institute of technology education in India.
• It is located in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. It is one of the eight new Indian Institutes of Technology that opened between 2008 and 2009.

9. IIT indore, Madhya Pradesh

• This IIT indore was established in 2009 by the Government of India.
• It is located in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Initially its classes were held at Devi Ahilya University’s Institute of Engineering and Technology.
• But since 2016 she is engaged in her own campus.
• Which is located about 25 km east of Indore in a place called Simraul.

10. IIT Gandhinagar, Gujrat

• This IIT was formed in 2008. Which was established in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
• Known as iitgn, this IIT is spread over 400 acres.

11. IIT Patna, Bihar

•  This IIT was formed in 2016. Which was established in Patna, Bihar.
• Known as IITP, this IIT is spread over 501 acres.

12. IIT Dhanbad, Jharkhand

• This IIT was formed in 2016. Which was established in Dhanbad of Jharkhand.
• Known as iitdn, this IIT is spread over 393 acres.

13. IIT Bhilai, Chattisgarh

• This IIT was formed in 2016. Which was established in Bhilai of Chhattisgarh.
• Known as iitjm, this IIT is spread over 432 acres.

14. IIT kharagpur, West Bengal

• Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur is an engineering and technology-oriented autonomous higher education institution established in 1951 by the Government of India.
• It is the oldest of the seven IITs. Let us tell you that the Government of India has officially recognized it as an institution of national importance.
• And it is counted among the best engineering institutes in India.

15. IIT Gwahati, Assam

• IIT Guwahati (Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati) is the premier technical education institute in India and the world.
• This institute is located in Guwahati, Assam.

16. IIT Bhubaneswar, Odisha

• Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar is an institute established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
• The first session of the institute started in the year 2008. The institute is located in Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha.
• The institute is currently running in a temporary campus. By 2012, the institute will be shifted to its permanent campus.

17. IIT Bombay, Mumbai

• Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai is India’s leading autonomous engineering university located on the banks of Lake Powai, north-west of the city of Mumbai.
• It is the second largest campus in the Indian Institute of Technology chain and the largest university in the state of Maharashtra.
• IIT, Mumbai was the second institute in the Indian Institute of Technology series,
• which in 1958 with the grant of UNESCO and the Soviet Union
• This IIT was formed in 2016. Which was established in Goa.
• Known as IIT GOA, this IIT is spread over 320 acres.

19. IIT Palakkad, Kerala

• IIT Palakkad is a public autonomous engineering and research institute located in Palakkad district of Kerala.
• It is one of the five new IITs proposed in the Union Budget of 2014 for India. (iit list in india)
• Its campus was inaugurated on 3rd August 2015 at the temporary campus location located at Palakkad, Ahilya took place on the integrated campus.

20. IIT Hyderabad, Telangana

• Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad is an institute established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
• The first session of the institute started in the year 2008.
• The institute is located in Medak district of Telangana. The institute is currently running in a temporary campus. By 2012, the institute will be shifted to its permanent campus.

21. IIT Dharwad, Karnataka

• This IIT was formed in 2016. Which was established in Dharwad of Karnataka.
• Known as IIT DH, this IIT is spread over 470 acres. 

22. IIT Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh

• This IIT was formed in 2015. Which was established in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh.
• Known as iit TP, this iit is spread over 500 acres.

23. IIT Madras, Tamilnadu

• Indian Institute of Technology Madras is the premier technical education institute in India and the world.
• This IIT was formed in 1959. Which was established in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
• Known as IIT M, this IIT is spread over 617 acres.
