    The University Grants Commission (UGC) National Eligibility Test (NET) is a national level examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in India. The exam is held twice a year, and is used to determine the eligibility of candidates for the position of ‘Assistant Professor’ and for awarding the ‘Junior Research Fellowship’ (JRF) in Indian universities and colleges.

    UGC NET Exam 2023 Registration has been started from 29 December 2022.

    The candidate who wishes to take the UGC NET exam 2023 to specialize in a desired subject must have a master’s degree in that subject with at least 55% marks in master’s degree (50% for reserved category candidates). 

    The UGC NET exam 2023 will be held at various Exam centers across the country. The exam is being conducted in online computer Based Test mode, with the questions being displayed on a computer screen and the candidates required to select their answers using a mouse. Exam shifts are divided in two timing slots. The first slot is from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, and the second slot is from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm.

    UGC NET Exam Eligibility Criteria

    To take the UGC NET exam, candidates must meet the UGC NET Exam Eligibility Criteria given below

    • To opt for UGC NET Exam Candidates must Have a master’s degree or equivalent in the subject they wish to specialize in.
    • Candidates currently pursuing PG Degree are eligible too.
    • Candidates must have passed with at least 55% marks in their master’s degree (50% for reserved category candidates).
    • There is no age restriction for taking the UGC NET exam but JRF candidates must not be older than 31 years as on 1 june 2022.

    UGC NET Exam 2023 Pattern

    The UGC NET exam Pattern is divided into two parts: Paper-1 and Paper-2. Both papers will be conducted on the same day in different shifts. 

    The exam will be conducted in online computer based mode. 

    Paper 1 is common for all candidates and is designed to test the candidate’s general teaching and research aptitude. This paper consists of 50 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) with 2 marks each.
