NIRF Ranking List of 2021

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan will announce the NIRF rankings on July 15. This information has been released from the Ministry of Education regarding the release of National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF ranking 2022). Announcing this on Twitter, the Ministry of Education has said that Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan will release the NIRF rankings on July 15 at 11 am.

NIRF Ranking list of 2022 for India will be released in total 11 categories. You can see these categories – Universities, Engineering, Pharmacy, Medicine, Architecture, Management, Colleges, ARIIA (Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements), Law and Research Institutes.

On the other hand, if we talk about 2021 last year, then this NIRF ranking was released on 9 September. Under this Indian Institute of Management, IIM Ahmedabad stood first in the Management Category. While IIT Madras stood first in the engineering category, AIIMS Delhi was ranked first in the NIRF Ranking 2021 in the medical category.

NIRF full form – We know this by the name of National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). The NIRF ranking was approved by the Ministry of Human Resource Development and was launched by the Hon’ble Minister of Human Resource Development on 29 September 2015. But now NIRF ranking is issued by the Ministry of Education.

For the 2020 rankings, around 3800 institutions participated in the process, which was 20 percent more than in 2019. The 2020 rank list was released by MHRD on June 11, 2020. For the first time, dental institutions were placed under a separate ranking list.

What is NIRF?

The framework outlines a methodology to rank institutions across the country. The methodology derives from the overall recommendations based on a comprehensive understanding by a core committee constituted by the Ministry of Human Resource Development to identify broad parameters for ranking various universities and institutions.

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) is a method adopted by the Ministry of Education, Government of India to rank institutions of higher education in India. NIRF was first approved by the Ministry of Human Resource Development in India and later again launched by the Minister of Human Resource Development on 29 September 2015.

Based on their areas of operation, the institutions are ranked under 11 different categories – Overall, Universities, Colleges, Engineering, Dentistry, Medicine, Management, Pharmacy, Law, Architecture and Research.

The framework uses a number of parameters for ranking purposes such as resources, research and stakeholder perception. These parameters are divided into five groups and some weights are given to these groups. This ranking depends on the type of institution. In the first round of ranking, about 3500 institutions participated voluntarily.

The ranking list for 2017 was released by MHRD on 3rd April 2017. While in its first ranking released in 2016, NIRF had four categories (University, Engineering, Management and Pharmacy), in 2017, two more categories, Overall and College, were added. Around 3,000 institutions participated in the rankings.
